Eastern Band of the Cherokee by James Mooney and Moravians

Did the Cherokee come down the Great Warrior Path the same way the Irogua did to hunt in the 3,000 square mile grassland that used to surround Pilot Mountain?

The Cherokee lived among many strong tribes all around them.

Clearly, from the celestial line-up at Pilot Mountain this would have been a grand ceremony spot throughout the year. The NC Park Service has published that there are also highly significant pre-historic burials at Pilot Mountain.

It is said the very first mound was natural. Within the mound culture coming upon Pilot Mountain on the Great Warrior Path would had a profound effect since it is over 1,400 feet tall (very much in dispute right now).

One of Yona FrenchHawk’s relatives went to England as one of the three Cherokee chiefs with Lt. Henry Timberlake in 1762.

Yona FrenchHawk is named after his great-great-great-great grandfather, Chief Yonaguska, who formed the Eastern Band of the Cherokee.
